Research
The Department currently boasts 17 faculty and 2 adjunct members. Apart from the conventional research fields of Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Nanomaterials Chemistry and Biochemistry are two major key areas. All research groups have ongoing research projects in the aforementioned fields that participate by graduate students and interns under the guidance of the faculty members. In addition, The Department has established the Center for Nano Bio-detection, which focuses on the research and development of novel biodiagnostics.

Teaching
Teaching at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is centered on the curriculum
of traditional Chemistry, accompanied Biochemistry and Material Chemistry.
The Department also offers optional programs of Biochemistry and Material Chemistry,
which would guide students to acquire specialized skills and knowledge.

Graduation requirements
To earn a Bachelor's degree, students are required to complete at least 128 credit hours including 70 required, 30 elective and 28 general education credits. A five year course leading to master¡¦s degree is offered to outstanding undergraduates.

Prospect
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is a door-opening degree, which may lead to postgraduate study in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedicine, Pharmacy, Food Science and Environmental Science. There are ample career opportunities in the industry including, but not limited to, electrical devices, electro optical sensors, chemical engineering, material science, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Teaching is another obvious option. All in all, graduates of Chemistry and Biochemistry have exceptional job prospects and academic roadmap.
